I love the color blue, so I decided to make some blue and white quilts to display for summer.  The combination is so soothing and fresh.  This is the first finished blue & white quilt.  This was a pattern and fabric collection from Connecting Threads.  This is the first time I have used their fabric and I like the results so far.  The true test will come when I wash the quilt.
My Farmers Wife quilt is really happening.  This quilt was not on my bucket list but somehow I fell in love with the idea and the stories so I decided to play along.  Attached are the blocks completed  to date.

Quilt guild challenge

The challenge this year for our quild was to make a quilt only 14"x14" quilt to reflect "The Beatles".  I had been wanting to learn a new technique so I searched for a song I could use. The song was "Nothing Shaken but the Leaves on the Trees".  So I made a series of leaves and joined them together.  There is one large leaf on the back that they all attach to.  It was fun to learn a new technique.  I used Batik's and varigated thread to stitch, the batting is left over from my batting basket.

Valentine Day party

Where did January go?  Kim and I are trying to work through our unfinished projects.  I know Kim has more than I do so I will help her get the ones she loves completed this year.
It is my friend Barbara's birthday and we are having a first Friday celebration.  I have made her a bag with French General fabrics and I know she will love it.  It is just the right size for a book bag or for a small project.  I made all of my First Friday friends a heart pincushion as a party favor.  Thank you Barbara for having a birthday so I could create these great wool pincushions for my friends. The large ones are made from wool and the small ones are also made from wool and inserted into a rusted heat tin.  Both are stuffed with walnut shells.  I sat them on a Valentine heart quilt I made years ago to take the picture. Nice color.

Holiday Gifts

I made wool snap bags for my First Friday Friends.  I used recycled and new wool.  I used a broken metal tape measure for the snap closure for each bag.  These bags were made from a pattern by Kathy Cardiff (the Country Loft quilt shop).

First Friday Girls

I surprised the gals who come for lunch on the first friday.  I planned a road trip and I packed a picnic lunch for them.  We traveled to one of our favorite quilt shop and after a little shopping I drove to a historic park near by and brought out the picnic basket with all of the goodies I packed.  They were surprised and we had a good time sitting in the park and visiting.

What a beautiful day here in San Diego, makes me want to stay home from work and play in the garden.
I have been very busy finishing up projects that I have started.  I finished my "French Chain" quilt made with French General fabric and have had it quilted and it is now on my bed.  I even made pillow cased and stitched a little pillow to sit on my bed.

We had a great first Friday lunch and sit and sew, although we did not sew.  We usually eat and then share our current project or a new book or something interesting.  It was Barbara's birthday so we had presents and flowers and a beautiful table setting with a Valentine theme.  I gave each of my friends a valentine gift I had made from recycled wool and stitched on. Kim gave our guests wool kit to make a heart pincushion and embellish with old buttons.  Kim and I  love working with wool and sharing our idea's with friends.  I must admit we get most of our inspiration from JoAnn Mullaly who has 2 books out on Wool Crazy project.cloft.com

August 30, 2008

Hi ,

The quilt show at country loft last week was great. It is great to see everyone's projects. It also gets me going to do all the projects I started & to finish the block of the months I have from the country loft.
I leave in 2 weeks to go on the country loft cruise with all my friends from the loft. Some husbands are going to. We fly into new york & will go to portland boston canada & will be gone 7 days. I have really never been anywhere so I am excited. My mom is taking care of my son. I hope that goes OK. We have never been apart except for 1 night.

I forgot to take pictures, but go to gingerpatches blog & see her pictures.

I decided not to go to the san diego quilt show. Road to california will be here in california in january 2009.

I bought some new books last week & books prices have really gone up. Some over $25.00.

I better go.

Love Kim

I am just preparing for my trip to Long Beach. My mom & I are taking my 16 year old autistic son with us. Should be interesting. We are making it a mini vacation. We have always wanted to go to Houston But it is just too far away.
Last week I did not go to the Country Loft & I felt lost all week. Donna Yackey has a really cute halloween quilt at the loft for classes.
